Eurica Tutoring Safeguarding Policy

1. Introduction

At Eurica Tutoring, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all learners, including children and young people. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that every student who receives tuition from Eurica Tutoring is protected from harm and to set out the responsibilities of tutors and staff regarding safeguarding.

This policy applies to all employees and contractors engaged with Eurica Tutoring.

2. Aims of the Policy

  • To protect children, young people, and vulnerable adults who receive tutoring from Eurica Tutoring.

  • To provide a clear framework for preventing and responding to safeguarding concerns.

  • To ensure that all staff and tutors understand their roles and responsibilities in safeguarding.

  • To maintain a culture of vigilance, where safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

3. Definitions

  • Safeguarding: Protecting the welfare and well-being of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. It includes protecting them from abuse and neglect.

  • Child: Anyone under the age of 18.

  • Vulnerable Adult: An adult (18 or over) who may be at risk of abuse or neglect due to physical or mental health conditions, disability, or other circumstances.

4. Types of Abuse

Abuse can take many forms, including but not limited to:

  • Physical abuse: Causing physical harm to a child or vulnerable adult.

  • Emotional abuse: Persistent emotional ill-treatment causing severe and persistent adverse effects on emotional development.

  • Sexual abuse: Forcing or enticing a child or vulnerable adult to take part in sexual activities.

  • Neglect: The persistent failure to meet basic physical or emotional needs.

  • Bullying and Cyberbullying: Using threats or abuse, either face-to-face or online.

5. Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Eurica Tutoring will appoint a Designated Safeguarding Lead responsible for overseeing the implementation of this policy, handling safeguarding concerns, and ensuring compliance with legal obligations. The DSL is [Insert DSL Name and Contact Information].

  • Tutors and Staff: All tutors and staff have a responsibility to:

    • Be aware of this safeguarding policy.

    • Report any concerns to the DSL without delay.

    • Take appropriate action to safeguard children and vulnerable adults, including following all training and safeguarding procedures.

6. Recruitment and Selection of Staff and Tutors

Eurica Tutoring follows safer recruitment practices to ensure that those who work with children, young people, and vulnerable adults are suitable. This includes:

  • Background Checks: All staff and tutors who work with children or vulnerable adults will undergo an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check in the UK, or equivalent checks if tutoring in other regions.

  • References: We will obtain professional references for all new staff and tutors.

  • Interviews: During the recruitment process, we will assess applicants’ understanding of safeguarding and their suitability to work with children or vulnerable adults.

7. Code of Conduct for Tutors and Staff

Tutors and staff must adhere to the following code of conduct:

  • Always work in an open and transparent manner. Where possible, tutoring sessions involving children should take place in an open space or with a parent/guardian present.

  • Avoid situations where a tutor is alone with a child for extended periods, especially in private settings.

  • Use appropriate language and maintain a professional demeanor during tutoring sessions, whether online or in person.

  • Do not engage in inappropriate relationships or communications with students, including over social media.

  • Report any safeguarding concerns, suspicions, or disclosures to the DSL immediately.

8. Online Safety

When tutoring sessions are conducted online, additional safeguarding measures must be in place to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable adults:

  • All online sessions must be conducted via a secure, approved platform.

  • Tutors must ensure that students are in a safe and appropriate environment for learning during online sessions.

  • Parents or guardians should be encouraged to supervise online sessions where possible.

9. Responding to Safeguarding Concerns

If any member of staff or tutor has concerns about the welfare of a child or vulnerable adult, they must follow this procedure:

  • Step 1: Record the concern. Write down the details of what has been observed or disclosed, including the date, time, and parties involved.

  • Step 2: Report the concern to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) immediately. Do not investigate the concern yourself.

  • Step 3: The DSL will assess the situation and determine the appropriate action, which may include contacting external authorities such as the local safeguarding board, social services, or the police.

  • Step 4: The DSL will keep a record of all safeguarding incidents and the steps taken.

10. Confidentiality

Safeguarding concerns must be handled with the utmost confidentiality. Information should only be shared with individuals who need to know in order to protect the welfare of the child or vulnerable adult. Personal data will be processed in accordance with Eurica Tutoring’s data protection policies.

11. Training

All tutors and staff must complete safeguarding training as part of their induction process. Ongoing training will be provided to ensure that all personnel are up to date on safeguarding practices and legal obligations.

12. Monitoring and Review

Eurica Tutoring’s safeguarding policy will be reviewed annually, or whenever there are changes in legislation or guidance. The DSL will be responsible for ensuring the policy remains effective and up to date.
